And oh before anything, a disclaimer: this is no legendary itinerary. If u know DL n I well you will know that our philosophy for traveling are as follows:
- no we do not join those freaking organized tours with babies crying chattering aunties n those who bring u to places so u can donate ur traveling expenses on useless goods like bottles of wines with snakes or scorpion's ass in it
- no we don't HAVE to check out places that everyone else does.. Ppl were like "oh u going Hk Disneyland" n we r like "for fuck?" . Not that I hate Disneyland, I kinda like Minnie Mouse. But like once is enough for me, don't act cute fake need to go every one in the world
- What we like is to go places n live like their locals. Like pie eating on sidewalks in Perth, bento-ing in tokyo, take the bloody mrt during their peak hours. N look at city planning or observe civilization. How the world isn't all HDB flats BTO DBSS CPF PAP PIE all that crap
So ya I'm being an ass here in the airport but bottom line is: our itinerary is not really for everyone ...
Day 1-
Took a damn freaking early flight , departure like 6am?! That means u gotta wake up at 1am and start going to airport at 3am.. By then you make up also look like zombie. Flight took 3-4hrs so by the time u clear customs and successfully refrain yourself from killing the 6236855921 prc fuckers yelling all over the place, u may reach ur hotel ard 2pm-ish.. Which means that kuku flight timing kinda works out pretty nicely!
Stay: Eaton hotel , somewhere along Nathan Road
Got a deluxe room but not big enough. Other than that the rooms are q new n pretty good
Ah siao behind me refused to wear any additional layers though I swear some parts of the trip was a freaking 15 degree
Eaton's located near to Jordan MTR station, which will bring u pretty much anywhere u wanna go even on single trip tickets.
After check in. Surveyed surroundings
When u get to Hongkong, I slap u if u don't eat at a char chan Teng (茶餐厅), these charming old school small eating places where sometimes u gotta share tables with others if biz is good. It's THE experience LARR!
The instant noodles with luncheon n egg, freaking good can!
Only thing is if u really go for the authentic ones the locals eat at, the food freaking good, but it feels like u need to speak enough Cantonese to order. Can still try mandarin la but we did sense the preference. For me, too chim cannot, like I can only pronounce 蒸肉饼 but not 咸蛋.. So what, I only got a plain meat patty? No la when all else fail just point lor.. Really an experience
We were pretty near to miu gai (庙街), as featured in 庙街故事 which I also grabbed in vcd form there. Love classic Hk movies! Miu gai - night market that operates after 6pm n ends shortly after midnight, those lazy asses. Can visit to buy tourist stuff at tourist rates!
DL says it really looked like the part in Resident Evil 6 so I made this of him.
Dinner for us at again a dai pai dong (大排档).. Anyhow walk in also can find awesome beef soup noodles. Soup base to die for really
Go back then diet la huh. How to pass on this ?!
N what's a trip without tasting my cappuccino at Starbucks!
Day 2- shop!
Yep my logic- shop for gifts n stuff all early so (a) u have time to say oh I really want this n that let's go back get and (b) u know how much u have left to pay for touristy crap haha
Shopping in HK is a no-brainer- Mongkok. Not really an orchard road but there is an apparel centre, ladies market , esprit outlet n a computer centre . Anyways just realized our hands were so full we didn't take pics of Mongkok ! Haha!
Fooling ard with the hotel wall painting
Took the MTR a lot tat day. Found it simple n systematic so u can save a whole lot not taking cabs . Do try to avoid the peak hours cos even with trains coming one min apart it was really packed. But what impressed me is how the HKers queued orderly to go in without pushing or trying to squeeze in when there was no space left. Got caught in peak hour once but it was still bearable.
Transport wise, we hadn't had the guys to try the mini buses.. That's a whole different ball game. Maybe next time!
Day 2's breakfast was memorable. We again anyhow walked into a charchanteng near temple street n ...
Freaking best dim sum ever!! Though we had to share seats n the place was really cramped. See the reflection. So took only one photo!
Dinner was settled in Mongkok . U won't starve there, places everywhere
And I found sharr Poh fan! Though here they call it 煲仔饭, n if u add what u think is a few slices of lup cheong cos it says add 腊味 on the menu it actually turns out to be like 4 sausages of different smoked meat n some bacon like thingy.
At like 9pm we dumped our conquest back in the hotel room n made an impromptu decision to go for a cool mountain trip... Scrolled the iPad n found out that the best way to view the Hongkong city line from the peak was via a tram... Love them! So we chionged out and took the MTR to Central.. Oh but to note, the tram station is way an uphill walk. So steep we were almost breathless
Tram tickets! Oh n pls buy the sky terrace tickets too cos u don't get outdoors without it
It seems we were higher than the tallest building in HK where they filmed the Dark Knight (ahhhhh) , so it was damn chilly! Even with the dumb cloak I was trying out I was almost shivering. Damn DL still happily walking about in his dri fit tee
View was too nice, we willingly got screwed for those exorbitant tourist photos n even framed it! But we like!
Day 3- Ocean Park
Again we didn't plan this but I recommended Ocean Park to DL n he decided to go for it on Day 3. I bet he didn't regret it! If u r not v into kiddish toy stories, it's really okay to give Hk Disneyland a miss for this
DL loves the underwater world. So much I dunno why. This is a screenshot of his camera roll
Sorry I think it was 10% of his cameras roll screen, still can scroll one lor
Touch fish. Touch touch touch
We entered this artic temperature penguin enclosure where a PRC auntie was screeching about how cold she is when she was cloaked in thick layers. Then she turned to DL n exclaimed "waaaaaa u wear short sleeves!" Funny ds.
My idea of fun on the other hand, wa suspending ourselves over most of HK. Love cable car rides!
Freaking steep hor!
Ocean park is actually divided into two parts, like one hill apart! Siao rite. So u either squeeze on the trains with fucking ah tiongs who shove n elbow u when there is no lack of space, or u queue like mad for the awesome peaceful cable car ride.
Caught me staring in wonderment at this cliff side 90 degrees roller coaster.
I do crazy things overseas , or dressing like an 80s bandit
Played the more harmless rides for the sake if the hub's heart but thats what a great wife does! Went to play those cheat money fun fair games n won these! Mini lucky charms
Caught a scenic spot before we left
?!
Had to run to Mongkok again cos needed to get some wife biscuits for grandma. My mum said I flopped n got a brand that's no-good. I don't remember the name ... But that's how bad I am at buying mud-products
Awesome dinner again at Mongkok!
DL eats beef noodles EVERYWHERE I swear
Me n char mee
Everywhere u go eat, just, please order the Ice lemon tea! (冻柠茶 pronounced dong neng cha) Before u come back to SG n drink that crap they claim is the same thing!!! Bloody cheat drink stall uncle! Deprived me of real ice lemon tea all my life. Serve me what yeos, heaven n earth, puiiiiii
Things I don't do in sg I do on vacation. Eg: eat dessert!
My aloe swail nest ice n durian pancake!
His black crap. Sesame plus Tao huay
So that's all before we packed n left the last day
I bagged this nice coat that DL said another tourist was totally staring at when I walked past her. Don't such purchases make u feel good!
Final round of Hk cappa
Bidding HK skyline goodbye n we will be back soon!
